About this home:
This rural home was built for a client during a significant life transition. After having explored a prefabricated modular home, thinkBright was able to demonstrate for them that instead, for similar costs, we could deliver a custom home that also met physical accessibility and high-performance objectives.
Benefits and Features
Energy-Efficiency Benefits:
- Built in 2014, this home was one of the first homes that we installed a ductless heat pump into. At the time we also installed back up baseboard heat in the bedrooms. After a decade, the heat pump is still performing!
- Like every thinkBright home, The OG is super insulted, with thick-wall and roof construction.
- Under-slab insulation ensures that the floor of the this slab-on-grade home stays warm in winter and cool in summer.
- A small electric fireplace provides supplemental heat and ambience, without a propane connection.
- Windows and doors were deliberately placed to allow for views while carefully protecting indoor privacy and avoiding overheating.
Design Features:
- The homeowner is an award winning hunter – the living area and roofline were custom crafted to accommodate a place of honour for the trophy Elk that overlooks the room.
- The wainscotting in the entryway is wood from an historic flume – reclaimed and hand finished, the silver wood gives a nod to the region’s history and the family’s roots.
- The kitchen is the heart of the home, with a large cooking and gathering area, and adjacent French doors that connect the indoors to the natural environment.
- While the house is mostly decorated in muted tones, the family bedrooms are bright with lots of rooms for rest and recreation.
- The primary bedroom has a large walk-in closet, a sanctuary bathroom, and an exterior door to the private hot tub.
